The Professional Learning Section of the Alabama State Department of Education is dedicated to supporting excellence in education through comprehensive professional learning and innovative programs that enhance teaching and leadership across Alabama's schools.
Our section works collaboratively with educational stakeholders throughout Alabama to support professional growth and development. We manage several key initiatives designed to support professional growth, maintain educational standards, and promote excellence in our schools:
Implementation and support of the Alabama Teacher Growth Program (ATGP) and the Alabama Teacher Observation Tool (ATOT), providing educators with valuable feedback and assessment tools
Management of PowerSchool Professional Learning platform, facilitating accessible and targeted professional learning opportunities
Coordination with Regional Inservice Centers to ensure consistent, high-quality professional learning delivery across the state
Implementation of the Alabama Principal Leadership Development System (APLDS), supporting the growth and effectiveness of school leaders
Administration of the Blue Ribbon Schools selection process, recognizing outstanding educational achievements throughout Alabama
Through these programs and initiatives, we work to ensure that Alabama's educators have access to the resources, support, and professional learning opportunities they need to excel in their roles and provide the best possible education for our students.
